APK install walkthrough — Android direct install

The Android APK installs cleanly on stock Android 9 and above. Before installing, enable "Install from unknown sources" for the browser or file manager that opened the APK, then disable the setting once the install completes.

The APK on this page is signed with the same release key as the listing in the MeitY registry. If your device refuses to install with a "package appears to be invalid" warning, confirm the SHA-256 of the file you downloaded against the colophon page — a corrupted download is the most common cause of that error.
